Bio

Erica Caruso was born and raised in Brewster, NY, where she received her dance training until the age of 18. While living in New York, Erica attended summer intensives at Point Park University and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and also choreographed and performed in original works performed at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY for the Brewster High School Dance Team. Upon graduation, Erica moved to Towson, MD to attend Towson University, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography. During Erica's time at Towson, she studied various ballet and modern techniques, including the Horton technique under the direction of Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Taylor technique under Robert Kleinendorst, the Vaganova Method under Runqiao Du, and the Cuban Method under Catherine Horta-Hayden. When Erica was a freshman, she was chosen to learn and perform an original work by Glenn Allen Sims, company manager of Ballet Hispánico. During her summers and breaks, Erica attended intensives at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and the Paul Taylor Dance Company. Erica also performed with the Towson University Dance Company for multiple semesters under the direction of Linda Denise Fisher-Harrell, Runqiao Du, Alison Seidenstricker, and Robert Kleinendorst, which she debuted works by renowned choreographers Vincent Thomas, Erin Du, Caitlin McAfee, Runqiao Du, Robert Kleinendorst, Carolyn Dorfman and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. Erica spent time in leadership roles as the Vice President for Towson University’s chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, where she advocates for greater dance education and outreach programs through incentives like "Love Your Body Week"-- the National Dance Education Organization's annual week dedicated to spending body positivity within the dance community. Erica has led multiple discussions on body neutrality and creating safe dance spaces, and continues to work on nurturing young dancers. Erica became a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance when she was 19, and had the privilege of student teaching under Nancy Romita-- yoga teacher and author of Functional Awareness and Yoga: An Anatomical Guide to the Body in Reflective Practice. On top of her 200-hour training, Erica has additional training in both Restorative and Yin Yoga— a deep, meditative practice designed to improve range of motion and focus. Erica taught Power Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, and Yin Yoga at Towson University’s Burdick Hall for two years, where she had the the privilege of sharing the beautiful art of Yoga with her fellow college peers every week. Erica is currently based in New York City as a working dance artist, yoga teacher, and model.
